Jabil
Managing risk in supply chain: Responding to the opportunity

Today's supply chains are becoming increasingly complex with increased dependencies across the globe, accelerated life-cycle compression, more volatile demand patterns, and persistent cost pressures. These complexities allow only the most critical nodes to be tightly managed and leave significant portions of the supply chain exposed. One only needs to look to the Japan crisis as a glaring example. Learn how Jabil leverages RapidResponse to identify and map critical supply chain characteristics by end product to produce optimal results.

Kevin O'Marah Research
Kevin O'Marah… UNCENSORED

Kevin O'Marah, most recently of Gartner (AMR) will share his perspectives on technology, the human brain, and supply chain for winners in this not to miss keynote address.

A day late and a dollar short — this is how one leading executive described the technology of ERP as part of today's global supply chain. New data shows that cost control, while still a fundamental for supply chain strategists, is steadily losing ground to higher level business imperatives like speed, agility and responsiveness. It is also clear that supply chain talent gaps increasingly separate winners from losers across industries. Is it possible that billions spent on ERP backbones offer little more than data and transaction automation while newer technologies race ahead by tapping human intelligence organically? It is not only possible, it is happening and supply chain strategists who can attract talent and leverage it with the right technologies are winning because of it.

Varian Semiconductor
Merging of planning and execution: How Varian Semiconductor uses RapidResponse to manage liability agreements at more than 40 supplier sites

RapidResponse was initially brought in to Varian Semiconductor for just one task — managing ECO Phase in/Phase out — and it paid for itself in less than two years on those savings alone. Now seven years later, RapidResponse has become an indispensable tool that supports more than 20 processes for seven functional groups across the company. RapidResponse's speed allows the company to do in minutes what it would take hours to do without the tool, and its flexibility enables some processes that wouldn't even be feasible to run without it. One such process is in the area of managing supplier liability. Since it is not feasible to set up over 40 suppliers in a "glass pipeline" view, Varian uses RapidResponse's advance alert capabilities to gather the data they needed to monitor these agreements.

Come and see a live demonstration of how Varian uses RapidResponse to:

  • Provide a dashboard view of the status of parts that are on liability agreements.
  • Perform simulations that include liability data when they need to add demand inside of lead time.
  • Predict burn off of parts for the quarterly inventory obsolescence review or when the level changes.

Executive S&OP

Today's executive wants answers fast and needs enough detail to make the right decision. RapidResponse has always provided lightning fast ERP analytics that have allowed companies to evaluate changes and try different solutions. Recently added demand planning capabilities have brought all of the data needed for S&OP into RapidResponse allowing customers to drive their S&OP processes.

Join me where we will show how RapidResponse can be used to present the preferred S&OP plan and alternatives to the executive S&OP team, review assumptions, and monitor progress against the monthly S&OP plan.

Operational S&OP

For many companies, the demand planning and supply planning process is disconnected. When evaluating different options in the demand plan, the demand planner has no idea if a particular option is doable until it's passed off to the supply planning team. RapidResponse's S&OP capabilities offer a better way.

With this workshop, we'll investigate some of the new S&OP demand and supply balancing capabilities introduced in RapidResponse 10.1. Join us to get some ideas on how to streamline your S&OP process, while improving the overall accuracy of your S&OP plan.

RapidResponse and supplier collaboration – treating suppliers as an extension of your organization

The increasing number of tiers in the supply chain also increases the dependency on remote suppliers for your operations performance results. To be truly effective, supplier collaboration needs to go far beyond the tactical exchange of data. Key suppliers must be brought into the decision-making process, so that manufacturers and brand owners can exchange early warnings and collaboratively resolve supply chain risk issues.

This session will show you the specific features and functions within RapidResponse that are key to building an efficient and effective process for working with your extended supply chain.

Take it to wherever you want to go: Non supply chain uses for RapidResponse

Extending RapidResponse to other functions adjacent to the supply chain is relatively easy. More important, these extensions do not need to be re-implemented with each new release of RapidResponse. In this session we will discuss some extensions that have been created by customers, as well as new non-supply chain extensions planned for future releases of RapidResponse, including Project Management and Strategic Workforce Management.

Kinaxis Technical Sessions

Automation, scripting, web services, and net change import

Business process automation is essential to implement effective business processes that identify exceptions to be escalated, while automating the tasks that do not require manual intervention. The introduction of Scripts in version 10.1 takes this to the next level, giving resource authors powerful tools to express business rules, and schedule a script or attach it to an event such as scenario change or workbook save. In addition to scripting overview, this session will provide an example of how to replace chained alerts with a script.

Another important ingredient to effective decision making in RapidResponse is near-real-time connectivity with other systems. This ensures that decisions are based on up-to-date information and that they are communicated quickly and automatically to ERP, or other corporate systems. Version 10.1 provides a complete set of S&OP web services that enable system-to-system net change, business process automation, and portal integration.

The session will give a glimpse into new scripting capabilities, and REST web services coming in version 11.0.

Beyond planning — Moving to full closed-loop execution

The pace of business is ever increasing and so is the volume and volatility of data that supports the decision-making process. Many Kinaxis customers have implemented closed-loop solutions using partial data updates and alerts, and with the release of RapidResponse 10.1, new tools have been added that are aimed at making it easier to close the loop to ERP. This session will provide an overview of net-change interfaces, data update enhancements, web services, as well as examples of how to use them.

High impact dashboards and data visualization

A picture is worth a thousand clicks – with new visualizations like dashboards and treemaps, RapidResponse users can obtain more information than before. Configurable dashboards allow authors to convert existing worksheets into widgets, which allows for multiple important reports to be displayed at once. Treemap charts help highlight problem areas and outliers in large data sets that might otherwise be difficult to detect.

This session will explain how each of these new resources work, how you use them, and more important, how you author them and link them to unite different resources into a natural drill-down capability for users to perform impact analysis and resolution.

Planning with expiry

Planning while taking into account product expiration is a great challenge for many companies. Materials that expire can exist at any level of the product structure. When a product expires can be dependent on the expiration of materials that go into it, or it might only be dependent on when the manufacturing of that level of product itself completes. In addition, there may be a requirement from the customer that the product must have a minimum amount of shelf life left at the point in time the customer receives it. How do you take into account these considerations when planning your production? How can you minimize potential scrap due to expiry while satisfying customer requirements? This workshop will describe Rapid Response's capabilities in this area as well as how to set up and use them to improve your planning.
