Inside Remix judging: What makes AI Agent valuable

Weeks of building come down to this

By Michelle Nguyen 24 Jul 2026

Submissions are officially in for the first cohort of the Maestro Remix Agent Hackathon

As judges begin reviewing submissions, they are looking beyond the idea itself.

They are evaluating whether each agent addresses a meaningful business need, delivers practical value, executes clearly, and gives users an experience they can understand and trust.

Business need: Is the problem worth solving?

Teams spent weeks exploring challenges that take up planners’ time every day, from comparing forecasts and explaining gaps to tracking supply risks and reducing manual work.

The question for each team is: How did you turn that challenge into an opportunity?

The strongest submissions make the need immediately clear. They show what is getting in the planner’s way, why the challenge is worth solving, and how an agent could help users act sooner, understand changes faster, or spend less time on repetitive tasks.

Practical value: Does the agent fit a real workflow?

But identifying the right problem is only the beginning. The agent also needs a realistic place in day-to-day planning.

A compelling demonstration shows what an agent can do.

A practical submission shows how the agent can help a planner move through a real workflow with more clarity, speed, or confidence.

Innovation and execution: Is the approach differentiated and well built?

The most innovative agent may not have the biggest idea. It may be the one that makes people ask, “Why haven’t we done it this way before?”

Each Remix submission begins with an idea. Execution shows whether the agent can turn it into something planners could rely on.

A useful agent does not stop at, “Something changed.” It helps answer the questions that follow: Why did it change? What could it affect? Where should the planner look next?

Planner experience: Can users understand and act on the result?

An agent cannot improve a decision if the planner does not understand its output or how it was reached.

That is why user experience and explainability matter. A strong agent should not only produce an output. It should help the planner understand why that output matters and what they may want to do next.

Setting the standard for future cohorts

These criteria will help determine the winner of three recognitions categories: overall Remix Winner, Best Business Impact and Most Innovative Agent.

As Remix continues, these principles will continue to shape what strong agent design looks like across future cohorts:  clear problem framing, practical value, thoughtful execution, and support for human decision-making.

The building is done. Now, the ideas show what they can deliver.
